About This Role

As a Data Scientist at MomonaTech, you'll unlock powerful insights from data to drive innovation in African fintech and agriculture. You'll work with diverse datasets from millions of users to build machine learning models that improve financial inclusion, optimize agricultural yields, and enhance user experiences. This role combines advanced statistical analysis with practical machine learning applications to solve real-world problems and create meaningful impact across the continent.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze complex, large-scale datasets to extract actionable business insights
  • Design, build, and deploy machine learning models for predictive analytics and recommendations
  • Create comprehensive data visualizations and interactive dashboards for stakeholders
  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and business teams to define data-driven solutions
  • Develop and validate predictive models and algorithms for user behavior and business metrics
  • Present findings, insights, and recommendations to executive leadership and cross-functional teams
  • Design and execute A/B tests and experiments to optimize product features and user experience
  • Build automated data pipelines and monitoring systems for ongoing model performance
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities
  • Ensure data quality, privacy, and ethical use of machine learning models
  • Stay current with advances in data science, machine learning, and AI technologies
  • Mentor junior data team members and contribute to team knowledge sharing

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or quantitative analysis
  • Expert proficiency in Python, R, and SQL for data manipulation and analysis
  • Strong experience with machine learning frameworks (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch)
  • Deep understanding of statistical methods, probability, and experimental design
  • Experience with big data technologies (Spark, Hadoop, or cloud data warehouses)
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, matplotlib, seaborn)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Experience with A/B testing, hypothesis testing, and statistical inference
  • Knowledge of data engineering concepts and ETL processes
  • Experience with cloud platforms for data processing (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Understanding of machine learning model deployment and MLOps practices
  • Advanced degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related quantitative field preferred
